Principal's Message for the 2024-2025 School Year

Dear Parents and Families,

We are so excited to welcome our students and families back to school! Hopefully, you enjoyed the beautiful summer with family and friends and found time to relax and recharge.

I’m happy to share that some of our most vital family supports will again be in place this year. Breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge to all students. The After School Program will run as usual, and our Back to School Knight will take place on August 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm. All school supplies have been purchased for UPK-12 students and will be distributed in class on the first day.  We are thrilled to be able to provide these opportunities to our community again. The only items that families will need to purchase are personal items like bookbags, water bottles, and lunch containers.

In addition to these supports, we are looking forward to welcoming our littlest learners to school for a full day. This new opportunity is made possible by a NYS grant that allows Lisbon to expand our previous half-day UPK program to a full-day program. The growth and overall success that this extra time will gift us will be evident in years to come.

This year, I would like to encourage you to drop your students off at school as close to 8:10 as possible or take advantage of our morning program, which welcomes students at 7:30 a.m. Either option allows students to eat breakfast and be in the classroom ready to learn by 8:30 a.m. Below this letter is a document outlining the importance of school attendance. Every minute counts when it comes to being in school.

As we continue to prioritize the safety of our students, we ask that parents do not enter the building on the first day of school to walk students to class. A great opportunity to visit your child's classroom is during our open house event on Wednesday, September 4, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. It's also important to note that guests must use the main entrance and sign in when they enter the building.

In closing, I want to express my genuine excitement for the upcoming school year and welcome back students and families. I encourage our school community to contact me at spearsa@lisbon.k12.ny.us or 315-393-4951 with any questions, concerns, or ideas to share. Your input and partnership are greatly valued.

Sincerely,

Alison Spears

UPK-6 Principal

March 2025

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As we look forward to spring and the final months of the school year, I want to share some information with our families about the upcoming New York State 3-8 assessments. These assessments track students' progress in mastering state learning standards and offer the following benefits:

  • Provide families with insights into their child's academic performance

  • Aid schools in evaluating instructional materials and programs

  • Assist in identifying students who may need extra support

  • Measure district-wide performance

The testing dates for ELA, Math, and Science have been established for this year and are listed below. To ensure our students' readiness and confidence during these assessments, we participated in computer-based test simulations at the end of January. These test simulations provided our students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the format of the tests and alleviate any potential barriers to performing their best on the day of the actual exam. In addition to the test simulations, our teachers have provided additional practice within their classroom instruction.

It is important to recognize that standardized testing, while beneficial, is just a snapshot of the wider educational experience. As we approach the upcoming New York State Testing period, I want to encourage families to speak with their students about these assessments. Motivate them to give their best effort while reminding them that these tests are only one measure of their growth and potential.

Testing  Dates

3-8 MATH Tuesday, April 8th & Wednesday, April 9th

3-8 ELA Wednesday, April 30th & Thursday, May 1st

5 & 8 Science Tuesday, May 13th (Grade 5) & Wednesday, May 14th (Grade 8)

As always, thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (315) 393-4951 ext. 23135.
