The Lisbon Central School District is excited to announce that, after being awarded a grant from the New York State Education Department (NYSED), we will begin offering full-day Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) classes in September 2024.

Lisbon Central School currently offers half-day sessions to students enrolled in their UPK program. Recognizing the need for full-day instruction for their youngest learners, Elementary Principal Alison Spears and Shannon Mattice, Director of Curriculum and Development, worked this winter to complete an application for NYSED’s Universal Prekindergarten Expansion Grant.  On May 14, it was announced that the district will receive $203,349 to support the expansion of their UPK program, which will now allow for 2 full-day sections.

“From the day Ms. Spears and I were hired at Lisbon Central School, full-day UPK was identified as a priority for us both,” said Shannon Mattice. “We believe this investment in our youngest learners will benefit both our students and their families. Our UPK program will no longer be negatively impacted by delayed starts or early dismissals and will allow more time for learning and play. We could not be more excited about this opportunity.”

Lisbon Central School District families that have already registered their children for UPK for the 2024-25 school year do not need to take additional action. Children who have been successfully registered will automatically be enrolled in the full-day program.

The district is continuing to accept applications for those who are not currently registered. Those interested in registering their children should contact the Lisbon Central School Elementary Office at (315)-393-4951, ext. 23133.
